A cable route can change because access is blocked or another trade needs the same space. The decision may be reasonable, but it becomes hard to explain later if it exists only in a conversation. Give field changes a consistent place in the project records.
Capture the decision while it is clear
Record the affected drawing, the location, the reason for the proposed change, and the person who must review it. Include a marked plan or an appropriate site photo if that makes the location easier to understand. Follow the project's information-handling rules.
Keep a proposal separate from an approved instruction. A note that someone asked about an alternative should not look like permission to install it.
Carry the change into closeout
Assign someone to reconcile approved changes with the final drawing set. Check that labels, test records, and equipment schedules still point to the same installed locations.
When a field note cannot be resolved immediately, leave an open item with a specific owner. A drawing marked complete should not quietly contain an unresolved question that operations will discover after the installation team leaves.
Practical takeaway
Add a change-record field to the installation review and identify who will reconcile it before turnover.
