Power over Ethernet, or PoE, can carry power and data over twisted-pair Ethernet cabling. That can simplify an access-point installation, but the equipment still needs compatible power arrangements. Counting available ports is only one part of the review.
Match requirements to the proposed equipment
List the intended powered devices and their exact models. Ask the technical reviewer to check device requirements, the relevant PoE support, and the switch's available power budget. Cisco's access-point guidance explicitly includes power-budget verification.
Avoid assuming that every access point behaves the same when a different power source is used. Review the selected manufacturer's documentation for the intended equipment and operating features.
Keep the project assumptions together
Record planned additions as well as the first installation. That gives the designer a clear distinction between confirmed devices and possible future needs without pretending to reserve unlimited capacity.
Coordinate equipment selection with the cabling and installation plan. If a proposed change affects power arrangements or configuration, make that dependency visible before the crew is scheduled. The purchasing list, technical review, and field plan should describe the same design.
Practical takeaway
Review device models, power requirements, switch budget, and planned growth as a connected equipment decision.
